With the warmer weather and an end to the pandemic in sight, there is a massive pent-up demand for travel. The time to book is now, and time to break out of lockdown fatigue and dream about that trip we’re just itching to take. But don’t just go anywhere, avoid the crowds and head to these amazing underrated destinations post Covid.

Fortaleza, Brazil

Ditch Rio de Janeiro and head to this hidden gem sitting right along the Atlantic Ocean in northeast Brazil. Described as a city in the middle of nowhere at the coast, here you will find a laid-back attitude, perfect for sporting the latest swimwear on 25 kilometers of white sand beach. Fortaleza is big on sun and nightlife – of which you can enjoy both in spades. This town is also a gateway to Brazil’s most remote and breathtaking scenery. Namely Jericoacoara, with its crystalline freshwater lagoons set among white sand dunes, just a few hour’s drive away. A little further is the gorgeous Lencóis Maranhenses National Park.

Cali, Colombia

Often left off of a tour of Colombia in favor of Medellin, Bogotá, or Cartagena, the 8-hour car ride should not detour you from this amazing destination. But fear not, it’s got its own international airport, so you can fly directly here. One would think this is the birthplace of Salsa, (you’ve got Cuba to thank for that), as it is home to must-visit clubs like a Topa, where you can mingle with the locals and let them teach you how to master their fancy footwork. Various hotels in the city offer free salsa lessons, so if you’re too shy to hit up the locals, some of the hotels even organize trips to the top salsa clubs. Then visit the quaint San Antonio neighborhood with its great cafes, boutiques and art galleries.

Galapagos Islands

These volcanic islands that straddle the equator are home to a fascinating array of wildlife that has adapted to this unique environment, helping to inspire Darwin’s theory of evolution in the process. Today, the Galapagos serves to quench the thirst of many an adventurous nature lover. Here you will find unique species found nowhere else on Earth. The Blue-footed boobie, certain species of sea lion and marine lizards roam freely on this archipelago of 13 major islands and seven smaller islands which lie about 600 miles off the coast of Ecuador.

The Philippines

With roughly 7,500 islands to choose from, it’s easy to get overwhelmed at the sheer number of options you have. The massive archipelago that is the Philippines has something to offer even the most discerning of tourists. Luzon, the northernmost island, is home to metropolitan Manila, a massive metropolis encompassing 16 cities surrounding the capital, Manila. The country’s most populous settlement, Quezon City, is the perfect location for a deep immersion into mainstream Filipino culture. If it’s fine sand beaches you’re after that are a bit off the beaten path, head to Visayas, the country’s central archipelago, where islands such as Boracay and Palawan offer plenty of white beach elegance. There is also ample opportunity to spot some of the endemic plant and animal species in this region.

Get off the beaten path and book your dream trip to these most underrated destinations.
